Good afternoon.
I would like to pass along some new information:
John Reason’s
In the tumult that is the online vampire community it is sometimes difficult to find clear and unbiased sources of information, it can be difficult to find impartial observers, and comments, about the things that are going on.
Each group, house, association etc. has their own methods of promoting their ideas and philosophies and that is perfectly fine. After all, the essence of online groups is to grow, evolve and develop ~ to consistently offer their membership something new and fresh to make being part of that group a pleasure.
Sometimes, however, independent resources are necessary for “spreading the word”, so to speak and for keeping people informed on developments in different places where they might not have the time to check-in on multiple sites or web forums.
John Reason’s Real Vampire News is rising to a pivotal and influential position as an impartial source of news for the vampyre communities. Comprising a number of sections for different resources, real-time reporting and editorial content, RVN is becoming an ever more valuable and detailed source of information.
If you haven’t chanced upon it yet, or haven’t really delved too deeply then put it on your ‘bookmarks’ or ‘favourites’ and keep up to date.
I recently had the pleasure of being able to ask the founder, John Reason, a few questions about Real Vampire News.
Q: When did RVN start and how did it come about?RVN officially opened to the public in early March of 2010. Real Vampire News came about because I saw some organizations showing the news of the community, but it seemed to be just the facts. I had been searching for a way to try and give back to the community, and I came up with an idea to start a site where all the groups in the vampire community could go to learn more about what other groups are doing.
Q: And what are the primary aims and goals of Real Vampire News? The primary aim of Real Vampire News is to feature news in such a manner that it would improve community cohesion by allowing different groups in the vampire community to learn about each other, and interact on a deeper level. This is a lofty goal, but it is something the vampire community desperately needs. The secondary goal, but the most important, is to help vampires who are lost in the overwhelming mist of discovering who they are. When I was going through my “awakening” I had nowhere to turn. I want RVN to be the place that I needed during the beginning of my personal vampirism. If Real Vampire News helps even one person to find themselves, than it is worth all the work.
Q: Do you believe that independent observation and reporting is a benefit to the community as a whole?I think that independent observation and reporting is very important, not only for the sake of keeping facts straight – but also to show Forums, Houses, and general Groups in a light other than what the members tend to portray. By being independent of most organizations, I am able to write the facts about different sites without giving the usual press-release-style description that members usually give. The Real Vampire News group of authors is very particular about getting their research correct – and the readers benefit from that.
Q: What sort of growth has RVN experienced since its establishment?RVN has experienced so much growth in the last year that it borders on a ridiculous amount. (Laughs) RVN started from a stock themed site that barely had any content but what I wrote. Over time I guess people got tired of seeing content written only by me, because I have been gifted with having a dedicated group of authors who help out immensely. I have learned a bit more about web design, and a bit more about researching and writing. My intention for Real Vampire News is to feature more content, more quickly, with more authors offering their content to the public. Real Vampire News gives the ordinary person a chance to do extraordinary things – to have a voice – and to use that voice to build the vampire community they want for the future.

I would like to thank John for taking the time to answer the questions, and for giving us a little insight into RVN. I think that the answers speak for themselves in establishing that Real Vampire News is already, and will be in the future, a great source of information and education in the online community.
Footnote: Up to April 5th this year the RVN site views averaged 400 per day with a top count of 1000. On April 5th this year the page view count stopped just short of 2000 page views.
